HIV/AIDS
The global HIV/AIDS pandemic has claimed the lives of 25 million people. Currently, there are 33 million people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide and only 3 million receiving treatment. The disease has orphaned millions of children and negatively impacted the economies of developing countries as worker productivity decreases. Despite an unprecedented response to the pandemic from wealthy governments, the gap between rate of infection and access to treatment continues to increase. Significant challenges such as gender inequality, human rights violations, stigma, and discrimination remain in the fight against HIV/AIDS. |
