What You Can Do

Ask Congress to:

  • Co-sponsor and pass S.891 Congo Conflict Minerals Act of 2009. This bill requires U.S based companies to track and disclose the country of origin of minerals used in their products.
  • Increase US financial assistance to address the urgent needs of families forced to flee their homes by rebel attacks.
  • Commit the US to work with local governments and organizations to develop a regional Great Lakes strategy to promote and ensure peace.
  • Write a Congressional resolution and letters to Administration officials to bring attention to the situation in DR Congo.
     

Ask President Obama and Secretary Clinton to:

  • Promote speedy passage of S.891 Conflict Minerals Act of 2009.
  • Develop a comprehensive strategy for how the United States will work with international partners and local organizations to ensure an end to the violence.
  • Increase US financial assistance to address the urgent needs of families forced to flee their homes by rebel attacks.
  • Commit the US to make long-term recovery for communities affected by the violence a priority in the region.
