Africom: Policy Solutions

The U.S. must support a security doctrine that prioritizes peace and justice.  Africom is not what the people want or need.  The U.S. should redirect its resources towards investment in education, food security, health care, job creation, adaptation assistance for climate change, debt relief, and fair trade policies.  Sustainable economic development will solve problems the military cannot.

More specifically, tell your Member of Congress that it is essential that:

  • Diplomatic efforts remain under the jurisdiction of civilians and not the military.
  • Congress should conduct robust oversight.
  • The voices of African civil society are highlighted and consulted when developing and executing U.S. foreign policy and foreign assistance programs.
  • Every decision prioritizes the interests of Africans rather than protect geopolitical interests of the United States.
